Partie Progressive

I know you will have a lot of questions.

First I can't say for sure Barry is not going to be there. I mean who knows with this whacky race right.

Second if you have given the maximum to the campaign we have space for you. But you have to move fast. The space is limited at this party.

Third, if you are a federal lobbyist you can only come if you've shown that you have contributed four figs to hillz. Send an email we'll see what we can do.

Just RSVP to the email address for direction on how to donate and get on the list.

This will be a fantastic art opening, mixer, listening lounge, and reason to get out and eat, drink, and meet new peoples.

THANKS! Tony & John (hosts) & Owen (celebrity) & Joey (designer)

VOTE! VOTE TODAY! UPDATED!

image from Joey's next groundbreaking show Partisan the Sea

You don't have to vote with me, just vote.

Very important election TODAY. I'd never thought I would do this but here is who the Times Union is picking. I did not solicit detailed questionaires but I did some research. I happen to agree with all of them. Whoa. I know, sit down:

What follows are the editorial board's picks based on detailed questionnaires and interviews.

State House District 12: Janet Adkins showed an assertive knowledge of the issues that set her apart.

State House District 14: Mia Jones (I am not convinced this is the right pick but she can cross the isle. WHY THE F DO WE HAVE AN ISLE IN THIS CITY?) has shown an ability to build alliances and produce results.

State House District 17: Mario Rubio has background in business and civic life.

State House District 18: Ronald "Doc" Renuart has an impressive background in the military, medicine and charitable work that would be a good addition to the Legislature.

State attorney, 4th circuit: Jay Plotkin has experience both as an administrator and prosecutor that sets him apart. He also will keep a businesslike relationship with police.

Circuit Court Group 11: Mark Hulsey has the overall experience advantage.

Circuit Court Group 28:
In a close call, Frederick Buttner over Virginia Norton due to a broader set of legal experiences.

Duval County School Board District 1: Ken Manuel brings school district management experience and exposure to best practices in other Southern school districts.

Duval County School Board District 3: W.C. Gentry is that rare highly successful individual, an attorney with first-class educational expertise, who has put himself in the public arena.

Duval County School Board District 7: Tommy Hazouri is the most experienced candidate and was outspoken when it was time to part ways with former Superintendent Joey Wise.

City Council At-large Group 2: John Crescimbeni showed that his previous experience as a district councilman produced a wealth of knowledge that could be useful in an at-large seat.

City Council District 10: Angela Nixon is an intriguing youthful choice. The Stanton and University of Florida graduate has worked with young people in targeted neighborhoods

State of the Nation

If you don’t know Al Letson, you need to meet him. That may be challenging after the event this weekend, so make plans to attend. He will soon be very busy as he is starting production on his new national radio show on NPR called State of the Re:UNION. Letson recently won the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s Public Radio Talent Quest and he is about to embark on a new part of his career. (go to stateofthereunion.com for more details about the show) This national show will be produced out of Jacksonville, so take this chance to get on board early and see what the show will be about and meet the man responsible for the concept at the launch party this weekend.

State of the Re:UNION Launch Party

It’ll be a fantastic affair, and very Al-centric. The concept behind the show is to highlight the aspects of different communities around America that work together to make this country what it is. A large part of that mission includes excavating the culture of the communities the show visits. In that spirit, Al has curated this event to showcase some of his favorite parts of Jacksonville culture. See the work of some of Al’s favorite artists (Marsha Hatcher and Princess Rashid) as well as a short film by Patrick Barry, music by Willie Evans Jr, and food by the Burrito Gallery. We will also be entertained by David Luckin, host of Electro Lounge. You may even be able to request a Grand Alfie from the bar.

This Saturday, August 23, from 5 until 8 pm

In the Gallery at Fogle Fine Art & Accessories

3312 Beach Boulevard in the historic St. Nicholas neighborhood of Jacksonville

(904) 296-1414 for details or visit foglefineart.com

(afterparty at Burrito Gallery downtown)

This event is free and open to all, we hope to see you there!

Are you going to go my Fay?

Oh Man. Feeling introspective today. My job is good for that.

It is super stupid to make fun of Hurricanes. To be serious for a second, this is the best link I can find for FAY. I knew it when I posted the awesome post below this would thing strengthen on land? WTF? You know, gnarl up in the Atlantic and then whip our complacent rears?. But I think Fay is going to do whatever despite my posts. Right? I do not have a string in this spaghetti. And I am sorry and will pray for any misfortunes by this storm. I grew up on the gulf coast.

Some of my first posts go way back, just after Katrina. I had just gotten back from NOLA days before the storm. There are no funny post there because it ain't funny. I was just trying to use contemporary ideas of media and turn it on its head like globatron.Only deeper because I'm trying to sell a Milwaukee beer and a e-town (pdf), and fun with it.

Sometimes people ask me when I am going to run for public office. To that I will say this: When I am ready to serve. But more importantly when blogging about my life, friends, ideas, and projects will help me get elected, not keep me from serving. Even stupid clever posts. Maybe thats never in this city. Maybe its sooner than we all think. You could probably care less. Which is why I don't have comments, Since 2005(tm). Allegretti, Democrat, since 1988.

I digress. Let me lighten up the mood with:

"Life · is · not · about · how · many · breaths · you · take...
it's about how many moments take your breath away."

Joey's site is getting so good with the news roundups and headlines, I'm thinking about having some sort of direct link over there and being more of a columnist? Maybe a little more subdued than VON. WHOA.

We'll talk about it tonight at the Hurricane Party at Marks, Formerly Party on the Patio. Either way. Its on.

The real hurricane probably will probably be on Thursday:

$10 World Beer Party? That's change I can believe in. Also. If you go to this party, there is a great chance that you will get a heads up on another even more elitist Obama fundraiser limited to 125 people. In a walkable neighborhood. Sept. 16th. Save the date and start rolling pennies.

See you tonight at Marks. Come celebrate new coordinates, the Veepstakes, guest djs, and life.

HURRICANE WARNING

000
WTNT41 KNHC 182104
TCDAT1
TROPICAL STORM BIGGIE TEA SUPER TUESDAY DISCUSSION NUMBER 13
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER JAX FL AL062008
900 PM to 200 AM EDT TUESDAY AUG 19 2008 MARKS BAY STREET

SATELLITE...RADAR...AND AIRCRAFT DATA INDICATE THAT BIGGIE TEA SUPER TUESDAY HAS BECOME
BETTER ORGANIZED THIS AFTERNOON. THE CONVECTIVE BANDING HAS
INCREASED AROUND THE CENTER...AND THE RADIUS OF MAXIMUM WINDS HAS
CONTRACTED TO ABOUT 30 N MI. ADDITIONALLY...THE CENTRAL PRESSURE
HAS FALLEN TO 998 MB. HOWEVER...THIS HAS NOT YET CAUSED THE WINDS
TO INCREASE...AS AIRCRAFT...RADAR...AND SURFACE DATA SUGGEST THE
MAXIMUM WINDS REMAIN ABOUT 50 KT. WE MAY DECIDE TO NOT, I REPEAT NOT PLACE TURNTABLES OUTSIDE. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT A TCU
WAS ISSUED NOTING LANDFALL WHEN THE WINDS AT KEY WEST WENT CALM AT
3 PM. LATER DATA SUGGESTS THIS WAS DUE TO A MESOSCALE FEATURE
ROTATING AROUND THE LARGER CENTER OF THE STORM...AND THE TRUE
CENTER OF BIGGIE TEA SUPER TUESDAY IS OVER KEY WEST NOW. WEE.

THE INITIAL MOTION IS 340/10. BIGGIE TEA SUPER TUESDAY IS ENTERING A BREAK IN THE
SUBTROPICAL RIDGE OVER THE EASTERN GULF OF MEXICO AND FLORIDA
CAUSED BY A MID/UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH MOVING THROUGH THE SOUTHEASTERN
UNITED STATES. BEYOND 36-48 HR...THE TROUGH IS FORECAST TO LIFT
OUT...WITH A MID/UPPER-LEVEL RIDGE BUILDING OVER THE EASTERN UNITED
STATES AHEAD OF A SECOND TROUGH OVER THE WESTERN GULF COAST STATES.
THE MODEL GUIDANCE STILL SHOWS CONSIDERABLE SPREAD IN RESPONDING TO
THIS PATTERN. THE NOGAPS CONTINUES TO CALL FOR A NORTH-
NORTHWESTWARD MOTION TOWARD THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE AND INLAND
THEREAFTER. THE UKMET HAS SHIFTED A LITTLE TO THE EAST AND
FORECASTS A NORTHWARD MOTION THROUGH THE FLORIDA PENINSULA...WITH A
SHARP TURN TO THE WEST AFTER 72 HR. THE CANADIAN MODEL HAS A
SIMILAR FORECAST. THE GFS AND ECMWF CALL FOR FAY TO TURN
NORTHEASTWARD INTO THE ATLANTIC...FOLLOWED BY A WESTWARD TURN AND
MOTION BACK INTO NORTHERN FLORIDA AFTER 72 HR. FINALLY...THE GFDL
AND THE HWRF CONTINUE FOR A GENERALLY NORTHWARD MOTION WELL INLAND
OVER THE EASTERN UNITED STATES. GIVEN THE INCREASING SIGNAL FROM
THE GLOBAL MODELS THAT NEW RIDGE TO THE NORTH WILL BLOCK BIGGIE TEA
SUPER TUESDAY'S PROGRESS...THE NEW FORECAST TRACK CALLS FOR A SLOWER
AND MORE WESTWARD MOTION AFTER ALL ITS JUST ME AND YOU (tm). THE EARLIER
PART OF THE TRACK...WHICH
CALLS FOR LANDFALL IN SOUTHWESTERN FLORIDA IN ABOUT 18 HR FOLLOWED
BY A TRACK OVER THE FLORIDA PENINSULA...IS SHIFTED A LITTLE TO THE
EAST AND LIES NEAR THE MODEL CONSENSUS, BAY STREET.

WHILE BIGGIE TEA SUPER TUESDAY REMAINS IN A MODERATE SOUTHWESTERLY
VERTICAL SHEAR ENVIRONMENT AND IS BATTLING DRY AIR ENTRAINMENT...
THESE CONDITIONS
ARE NOT SEVERE ENOUGH TO PREVENT STRENGTHENING. THUS...THE
INTENSITY FORECAST CALLS FOR STRENGTHENING UNTIL LANDFALL. WHILE
NOT EXPLICITLY A FORECAST POINT...IT IS LIKELY THAT BIGGIE TEA
SUPER TUESDAY WILL MAKE LANDFALL AT OR NEAR HURRICANE STRENGTH.
AFTER 24 HR...THE
INTENSITY WILL DEPEND MAINLY ON WHETHER BIGGIE TEA SUPER TUESDAY
IS OVER LAND...AS THE
UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE LIKELY TO BECOME MORE FAVORABLE. THE CURRENT
INTENSITY FORECAST IS BASED ON FAY REMAINING OVER LAND AND THUS
DISSIPATING. IF FAY REGAINS THE ATLANTIC OR THE GULF OF MEXICO
DURING THE FORECAST PERIOD...IT WILL LIKELY REMAIN STRONGER THAN
FORECAST.

IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT...SIMILAR TO BIGGIE TEAS GOLD EXCHANGE IN 2001...SMALL
DEVIATIONS FROM THE FORECAST TRACK COULD MAKE LARGE DIFFERENCES IN
WHEN AND WHERE THE CENTER OF FAY MAKES LANDFALL ON THE FLORIDA
COAST.

FORECAST POSITIONS AND MAX WINDS

Third Friday's! YOU THOUGHT WE WERE CRAZY EARLY IN THE MONTH?

That is sarcasm. Great show. A very robust show if you will. And you should. You can splurge on some local art from local arteests. Lots of them.

I hope you will have a beer with me at TSI when they open back up. Someone pointed out to me that in the general main stream dialogue about dowtown (WHITCH IS AWESOME), TSI is seldom credited. Take it from someone who has been here for a while, TSI is great and benevolent and should be open soon. That will be something to toast.

Also, if you blow all your dough on local arts, you can grab the neighbors kid and run down to 9th and Main for an early keg while the kiddos jump in the jumper. Wee. Then break out the linolium. Its summertime in the city. Full info here.

PLUS 9th and Main is UNDER NEW MGMT MFS! YES AGAIN! Doin' it and doin' it and doin't wrong. I can see the tshirts now. Anyway, I like the new guy so I'll support it right up until folds up like the poltergiest house again. And again.

9th and Main is dead. God save 9th and Main!

Sorry. Anywhoo. Have a good weekend and have fun. Be careful and prayerful on the streets of Duval (chef brent (tm)

also, dropsonic is about to do just that out back. actually kuwait first. welcome to jville fellas. come on down. open late tonight.

Dropsonic & Kuwait Live at burrito TONIGHT!

Check out Dorpsonic's new site and Kuwaits minimal nothing of a myspace.

The show will be more impressive. I promise.

Growth Management. Starts from within.

How do you fight rampant development? How do you make sure your voice is heard when big decisions affecting your environment are made at the city level? Do you want to see better public transit and improved environmental protection?

First of all, find out the facts, learn the process, and start making connections.

Join RADO, RAP, and the City of Jacksonville’s Planning and Development Department at 7pm, August 18th at Riverside Presbyterian Church (849 Park Street), in Bettinger Hall, for an information session on the City’s Future Land Use Map process.

In their words,

“The Planning and Development Department is updating the City’s Comprehensive Plan, including the Future Land Use Map. This map helps to guide growth and development in the City.

Land Use is a general vision for the way residents would like to see their city develop. Decisions about Land Use should consider such questions as:

· What type of community do you want to live in?

· What type of amenities, such as transit, or park space, do you want near your home?

· Is your neighborhood urban, mixed-use and pedestrian oriented or rural?

In the Land Use planning process these broad statements are translated into a map to produce a visual representation of the intended development pattern for the City.”

This is a complex and extremely important policy process. If you care about the shape of your city, and have strong feelings about the way it ought to look, and what ought to be preserved, you must get involved in this process.

If you have any questions about why you should care about this meeting, please ask. There aren’t enough opportunities for citizens to express their opinions about development practices. This is one of them.

See you there.

Skate Park in the Vinyl District plus Kuwait can't Wait

the art walk from the other end of I10. Just another way we beat carifornia, down

Speaking of cars and why we don't need them, check out vinyl frontiers plan to make records accessible throughout the urban core by bike. It says 11th and Man. Smile. Go browse the vinyl people, its the only thing for sale on Main Street that will last and give the gift of art for another 100 years. Well besides bikes and bags. Burro bags.

What can you put your vinyl since your are on your bike? A recycled gem of a burro bag of course. Don't miss their blog about the SKATE PARK coming to Springfield. I will call it right now. There are two MAJOR things that are going to change our city (the Artist Market under the Fuller Warren (opens October) and the Skate Park in Springy.

You will find all of this stuff in the urban news at UJ. Well except for the Artist Market run down. He's actually waiting for me to post that. I have all but changed all my news to the urbanjacksonville.info best blogger alive page. The urban news is the perfect reminder of niche blogs that I sometimes forget exist but get a lot of value out of. He will also post relevent big media stories too. I know oxy moran. Ahh the innerwebs.

Anyhoo. BIG ROCK AND ROLL SHOW THURSDAY! at some BURRITO PLACE DOWNTOWN. SEE BELOW AND READ PREVIEW WITH DIRTY WORDS HERE.

These two bands are nothing alike in many ways, but in creating articulate and intoxicating rock songs that will carry on in your head most of the night, they are the same.

Return of the Mac

For the title I was going to go with the hiatus is back on/off, but I'm day to day right now. Lets just say my face hurts enough for both of us. My nose ring gone bad, gone real bad. Plus the mac (snow, shown) is going to bust out tomorrow night at marks. Behold its beauty and you know $1, $2, $3 cold liquids. And jams with me joe e news roundup, dj 5 points and the riots, and dj ben bernanke will make your tuethday thpethel. Don't worry, it'll just be me and you. So what else is on the come back? ricotta mother f-in park folks. The bestest well wrote blog this side of the comic book nyorker. Back when all the local "weblogs" were accused of not just not wanting to write good (in that cruel article in "904"), but that I never learned to write good, it would have been SWEET to bust some crowder on his well, this is probably a run on sentence. anyhow the legendary rp is back. So pump up your jeeps and blast down your chinos. And related and probably more meaning ful to your body, check out the new and improved gut reaction. Great tunes keep that body movin and they saved the view of the crumbling trio for me.

I'll explain the whole thing to you at art walk, which is WEDNESDAY. with special guest WILCO!

Be warned tweeders. There will not be a parking space to be found! What will we do! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!

The good news is that wilco will think jacksonville is a ragin fun art town. The bad news is that late jax people will miss a few songs.

From the French desk via Springfield

First one is an interesting look at how the French feel about the good senator from Illinois. The second shows how they set up the interviews and the context of a difficult question mentioned in the first. Very interesting to hear Sarko's full answer. He gets a little embarrassed and then finishes with a name run down of his cabinet and it sounds like the NPR foreign desk roster.

Respect.
