Pensacola Peoples - Check out Chicken & Whiskey Tonight

My buddies from Keyboard Punk Mainstay Chicken and Whiskey will be in Pcola tonight at 309 north 6th avenue. Where ever that is. Give them a big breezer hug for me. I'm not sure if there is a cover or donations or what, but they scream it like they mean it. I'm happy the van made it that far.

All Songs Considered

Do you ever wish you could do more? That you could help the little guy by just doing something you find enjoyable? Tonight there is an excellent opportunity for this. GO SEE THE MIKE BERNOS BAND! The music will be well worth the $10 but that all goes to the Harvest of Hope Foundation which helps migrant farmworkers

The Mike Bernos Band will perform at a  Harvest of Hope Foundation Fundraiser, February 18, from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm in Jacksonville at the Church of the Good Shepherd’s  Craig Hall,  1100 Stockton Street in Riverside.  Craig Hall has been the site of many of Jacksonville’s outstanding intimate musical performances.  The band will perform songs from its new CD, With These Hands. Donations will be $10.00. Mike’s outstanding band features Kenny Levine on piano, Mark Dennison on Guitar, Sam Rodriguez on percussion, Teri Levine, vocals, Lawrence Buckner on bass and Brittany Maroney.   The event will start with refreshments being served at 6:30 pm. This will be the fourth HOH fundraiser at which the Mike Bernos Band has performed.  The band has also been scheduled to play at the Harvest of Hope Festival, Sunday, March 13.

I wrote a post about this show a couple weeks ago. I know sales have been pretty good, but I really hope you can make it out to this Riverside event tonight. Please consider.

One Big Happy Family

I know you were at the opening of the Lomax Lodge last night. How do I know? Cuz everyone was there. Especially if you are cool enough to read this blahg. Huge congrats and happy birthday to Maryanne and Ian for opening what seems like 5pts living room. I hope there are some pics and videos out there of their opening night. Especially of the fire girls out front. They were extraordinary.

We MUST get a streetcar from Riverside to Downtown to Springfield. Immediately. More on that later.

There are a lot more new bars and things to do in this city. A lot of great people are doing big things. Check up on some of them at the latest Urban Jacksonville Weekly podcast. Good show.

I'm doing a flier each week for our {lit} gig Thursdays. Just for fun. Indie rock, indie hip hop and more. Requests only $5.  I didn't get to meet Jamie Foxx (yet). But I did listen to his radio show on xm on the way to the super bowl. I think every Jamie Foxx song is excellent and for some reason I am really digging his music. I know its not all that indie but I'm playing it anyway. Jamie if you want me to pull this song off just holler.

Zines Rule Everything Around Me

ello Urban Core Enthusiasts!

The Jacksonville Public Librarys “Much Ado About Books is coming up and Im hoping you all could mention some of the Zine Collection events weve set up.

On Saturday, February, 27th, the Zine Collection will be hosting two events at the Main Library downtown. There will be a panel discussion about zines and independently published media and afterwards we will host a reading.  Both events are free and open to the public.

10:45 – 11:30

Ian Koss (Ink 19), Joe LaChut (Seven Inches to Freedom), Tom Pennington (The Hum, Reax) and Max Michaels (Movement Magazine) will be discussing their history with zines, the importance of independent publishing, and the role of the Internet in publishing.

12:00 – 12:45

Authors Duncan B. Barlow (Super Cell Anemia), Patrick Hughes (Diaries of Indignities), Shelton Hull (Folio Weekly, Section 8) and poet Alan Justiss (too many to list) will read from their own original work.

For more information on the authors, click here:

We have high hopes for this event, as our last few programs with bands/speakers have been well-attended. Any write-up you can do on this, we’d very much appreciate it. Let me know if you need any more info.

Thanks for your support!
