See Sullivan through the Eyes of the RAMFather: Free Photo Exhibit Wed. June 30

I hope you will attend the free opening for an exhibit of my photographic work at the 5 Points Theatre this coming Wednesday, June 30 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.

This is a collection of photographs I have taken across the United States, focusing on the extraordinary details of one of the world's greatest architects. The show is called "The Art & Architecture of Louis Sullivan."

If you are not well acquainted with Louis Sullivan, who had a major influence on our local noted architect Henry John Klutho, then you will find these images to be quite a revelation. But even if you are a seasoned admirer of Sullivan's work, I think you will marvel at the intricacy and intimacy of these high-resolution blowups of the artistry of America's legendary architect.

The photo show will held in the theatre lobby. There will be refreshments and a cash bar (5 Points Theatre, 1028 Park Street). [Stick around after the exhibit to see the 5 Points Theatre's feature film, a very cool documentary "Exit through the Gift Shop," at 7:15pm.]

This photo exhibit is a precursor to next month's premiere showing of an internationally significant film, "Louis Sullivan: The Struggle for American Architecture," which will be shown at the 5 Points Theatre one day only, Sunday, July 18th. The film was the winner of the Best Documentary at the 2010 Kansas City Film Fest and was an Official Selection at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival 2010. Its director, Mark Richard Smith, will be appearing in person at the Jacksonville showing to introduce the film.

The movie showing is a benefit for the Jacksonville Historical Society, Riverside Avondale Preservation, and Jacksonville AIA. There is limited seating, and it is expected to be a sell-out. Click here to see a trailer for the film and also to buy tickets.

Thanks!

Wayne

HUGE RAM SON!

Greetings RAMfans!

This Saturday will be another blockbuster weekend at RAM. We will celebrate Fête de la Musique
, the worldwide music festival which was born in France and celebrates the summer solstice. Fête de la Musique is the perhaps the most popular event of the year in the city of Paris, although it has spread and is now celebrated in hundreds of cities throughout the world.

This French-themed day of music at RAM is held in conjunction with the Sister Cities Nantes Committee, Alliance Française, and the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens(which will present several concerts simultaneously with those at RAM). The internationally acclaimed jazz group,Station Mir Trio, is flying in from Nantes, France, and will play on the Crossroads Stage at 2:15. Here is the lineup of great music in store for you:

On the River Stage:
Belle Fleur String Quartet - 10:30 am

It is also World Juggling Day, and we will be featuring three amazing jugglers: David Ferman, the 16-year-old national champion; his dad, Leonard Ferman, who is the National Joggling Champion; and Wacky Chad, the daredevil juggler and pogo stick stunt comedian from Boston.

And don't forget Father's Day is this Sunday! RAM's artists will have thousands of perfect hand-made Father's Day gifts on sale for you to choose from. Shop locally, support the arts community, and make Dad happy, all at the same time!

Last but not least, it is National Knit in Public Day, and a group of radical knitters are going to Yarn Bomb the Riverside Arts Market -- wait till you see this!! Knitted graffiti - who would a thunkit?

So come to RAM, buy some art, get your fresh veggies, eat lunch with Dad while you listen to over five hours of continuous music on five different stages.

No wonder Folio Weekly called RAM "the coolest thing ever!"

See you under the bridge!
